A horse betting system or a horse racing system is
simply a methodical method to determine which horse
to bet on.
One of the reasons many people fail at betting is that
they do not use any consistent form of approach to finding
winners. They use gut feeling, hunches, bet whatever
they fancy on the day.
A racing system follower however uses a pre set method
to determine his betting selection. Or put another way,
they have a set of firm fixed rules they use to methodically
select the horses to bet on.
The exact rules of selection of course vary considerably
from system to system.
Some are simple. Some complicated.
Most systems fail to win long term although there are
several selection approaches that have proven to be
winners over many years.
Compared to a standard hunch type backer, a racing
systems man has several advantages.
Firstly a system can often be tested and checked over
past racing data prior to any bets being made.
The systems man will know in advance of placing any
bet the past record of the system and how profitable
it has been in the past.
Would you rather be betting a fixed method with recorded
past profitability or backing untested hunches and opinion?
Another key advantage of system betting is that it
can bring discipline to your betting.
Lack of discipline of course being a common reason
why many fail backing horses.
Compared to the haphazard randomness of a typical betting
shop punter, a good systems man will discipline himself
to do two things.
- Test systems on paper to look for systems with a
record of profitability.
- Only back selections from proven methods.
Use this approach and you can cut out a lot of the
emotional bet decision turmoil that gets the better
of most punters.
You must remember that no system no matter how profitable
it has been in the past, can be guaranteed to keep producing
similar profits forever into the future.
It makes sense to keep an eye on betted systems for
signs of dropping profitability. Also to bet using a
portfolio of different betting systems so that overall
success is not dependant upon any one horse racing system
approach.
System betting is a question of managed risk not guaranteed
success.
